New Mom’s Survival Kit

Most of us become over excited by our blossoming baby bump and preparing for delivery that we forget to prepare for the items we need to survive the days following labor. Here are our top 5 picks:

1.  Sitz Bath

A sitz bath is where you sit in a tub of warm water, to heal and soothe pain in the perineum area. It’s good for moms who had a natural birth to help provide comfort to the wound. This will also help alleviate discomfort if you suffer from hemorrhoids.

To create your own sitz bath, you can purchase here:

Here is an easy DIY recipe to follow:

Tea Tree, Witch Hazel & Lavender

1/3 cup Epsom salt

¼ cup sea salt

2 tablespoons witch hazel

10 drops tea tree essential oil

8 drops frankincense essential oil

8 drops lavender essential oil

Pour the Epsom salt and sea salt into a bowl. Blend.

Next, add the witch hazel and essential oils. Blend again. Witch hazel is pretty amazing as an astringent for the skin because it has antibacterial properties.

Tea tree essential oil is an antiseptic with the ability to help treat wounds and bacterial infections.

 Frankincense works to reduce inflammation

Lavender also helps treat wounds, providing powerful antioxidants that can be absorbed through the skin.

2.  Breast Soother

Don’t expect the first days of breastfeeding to be easy. These nursing pads will give you a little pampering that can get you through the pain.

Just microwave or place in the fridge or freezer to provide temperature activated soothing and comfort for sore, engorged nipples.

3.  Belly Wrap

After childbirth it will take our bodies take a while to bounce back. Not only does a belly wrap help get us back on the path to our post pregnancy figures, it also helps promote pelvic floor support. However, there are other reasons why you should have a belly wrap ready from the hospital:

  • Supports lower back

  • Creates good posture especially with C-Section mommies

  • Promotes good blood circulation to assist with healing

  • Helps the stomach’s natural ability to compress back into shape

  • Promotes less water retention

  • Assists with the tightening of loose skin

4.  Donut Pillow

For moms who gave birth naturally, this is a lifesaver (no pun intended). Not only does it take the pressure off the stitches, it is also helpful in relieving the tension from the lower back region.
